Asensio Andrade Flores was established in 1975 by Jorge Asensio Wunderlich and Jorge Asensio Aguirre.

Sfera Legal is the result of the 2012 merger between Costa Rican law firms Facio Abogados and Feinzaig, Scharf & van der Putten. The firm already made a play for regional services when it initially open an office in Guatemala in 2017. With the Asensio Andrade Flores alliance, it now has four partners in the country.

Furthermore, as part as its drive for Central American coverage, Sfera Legal joined forces with law firm Ayala & Betancourt in El Salvador and opened a new office in Nicaragua with a lateral hire. It now has 7 offices across Central America with 16 partners and 55 lawyers.

In the announcement, Ignacio Andrade, managing partner of Asensio Andrade Flores, said: “This alliance with Sfera Legal is a step to a regionalization that has been one of the objectives of the firm, allowing us to provide our clients with a wide and strong range of high quality regional legal services. It also seeks to consolidate the growth of the law firms involved, uniting strengths with the aim of being a Central American multidisciplinary law firm.”

Asensio Andrade Flores already has experience in offering legal services across Central America and it had an alliance with regional law firm García & Bodán from 2015 to 2017.

As international clients and investors view the countries in Central America as a single market for doing business, the legal landscape in the region is increasingly dominated by law firms with regional offering with different degrees of integration.
