Cariola Díez Pérez-Cotapos was founded in 1889 and is one of Chile’s largest law firms, with over 90 lawyers including 20 partners.

Cognitiva is a cognitive computing solutions and artificial intelligence consulting firm with a presence in 23 Spanish-speaking countries. So far, it is the only company marketing Watson in Spanish. Watson is IBM´s AI computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language.

Cariola and Cognitiva are working on project Lexnova, which will provide innovative products and services in Spanish-speaking countries throughout Latin America, using artificial intelligence to make legal processes more efficient incompanies and public agencies.

“We are very excited about this joint venture. The development of artificial intelligence in Spanish requires experts in every area in which it can have influence and, in the legal world, we have found the best partners in Cariola”, says Aldo Marzolo, CEO at Cognitiva Chile, in the announcement.

Rodrigo Lavados, a partner in Cariola’s technology area, adds “The world is changing very rapidly and the market requires answers from its legal advisors that are in line with the times. We are the first, but sooner or later everyone will have to cross the river of artificial intelligence. This technology is a tremendous opportunity for companies to optimize their resources and become more competitive.”
