BLP Honduras concludes advisory role on Los Prados solar plant

Law firm BLP Honduras has concluded its legal advisory role on the first phase of the Los Prados solar project, which has begun generating electricity for state-owned utility ENEE.

BLP’s advisory team was led by partner Karla Aguilar and assisted by associates Rafael Chicas and Andrea Ramírez, with the support of the firm’s business law and tax practice areas.

Over the years, the project encountered major regulatory, social, and contractual challenges, BLP Honduras said in a statement.

“Due to the complexity of the project, the decision was made to divide it into two stages, necessitating reengineering, re-ceding, expansion, modification, and relocation of the parks, which implied the need to modify and expand several environmental licences and concession contracts that had been granted by the state of Honduras,” it said.

The development also required the relocation of two projects, and the need to obtain four extensions to the power-purchase agreement signed with ENEE, which has a 20-year duration.

Los Prados is expected to supply approximately 73,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year, providing energy for more than 16,300 households, contributing to a CO2 reduction of almost 40,000 tonnes per annum, according to Scatec Solar.

The project, located in the southern Choluteca region, increases Scatec Solar’s portfolio in Honduras to a total 44 megawatts.
