Carey counsels Export Development Canada on Codelco loan

Chilean law firm Carey has advised Export Development Canada (EDC) on the extension, via renewal, of a $300 million existing term loan agreement granted to Chile’s National Copper Corporation (Codelco).

CodelcoCodelco is Chile’s state-owned copper mining company, formed in 1976 from foreign-owned copper companies that were nationalised in 1971.

Carey and US-based law firm Pillsbury acted as counsel to EDC, while Chilean law firm Prieto Abogados acted as local counsel to Codelco, which was also advised by Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Carey’s team comprised partner Diego Peralta and associates José Tomás Otero, Manuel José Garcés and Paluska Solar.
