PPU acts for banks in loans to Minera Los Pelambres
Chilean law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) has advised a group of banks on two loans to Minera Los Pelambres, Chile’s largest private mining company.
Bank of China (Chile and Grand Cayman branches), Export Development Canada, Mizuho Bank., The Bank of Nova Scotia and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation facilitated an $875 million loan to the mining company.
PPU partners Marcelo Armas and Marcela Silva were engaged as counsel to the banks.
Law firms Jara del Favero & Ried Fabres: Milbank and Sullivan and Cromwell were also engaged as counsel.
PPU also advised Japan Bank for International Cooperation as lender of a $425 million loan to Minera Los Pelambres, and in which the abovementioned PPU partners were also engaged.

And in a separate transaction, PPU also acted as local counsel to Banco Santander Chile in the issuance of CHF150 million in 0.384% senior fixed-rate notes due 2024.
PPU partners Marcelo Armas and Marcela Silva were engaged as counsel to Santander, along with associates Macarena Valenzuela, Francisca Rebolledo and Santiago Mesías.
