Jazmina Rovi elected as head of Panama Maritime Law Association

Jazmina Rovi, a partner at Panamanian law firm Morgan & Morgan, has been elected chairperson of the board of directors of the Panama Maritime Law Association (APADEMAR), for the 2019-2020 tenure.

Jazmina Rovi of Morgan & MorganThe election took place at the National Bar Association of Panama, where more than 80 per cent of APADEMAR members voted in support of Rovi (pictured) and the new board of directors.

This is the third time that Rovi has occupied the post.

APADEMAR is a non-profit association of legal professionals practicing in the field of maritime law and which proposes legislation to benefit the Panamanian Merchant Marine, and to further the country’s position as a world-class shipping hub.

Rovi has over 20 years’ experience representing shipping companies, charterers, leading financial institutions and funds on ship financing and registration under the Panamanian flag including drafting and legal advice on enforcement of ship mortgages and the pledge of shares of Panama shipping companies.

At Morgan & Morgan she is co-head of the ship finance and registration practice.  

She has also been involved in the drafting of various Panamanian maritime laws.

The newly instated APADEMAR board of directors is made up of vice president Pilar Castillo, treasurer Alexis Herrera Jr., assistant treasurer María Lourdes Galán, secretary Ramon Franco and assistant secretary Joaquín De Obarrio.
