García & Bodán counsels Cairn Energy on Nicaragua O&G exploration projects

Law firm García & Bodán provided legal advice to Cairn Energy as it prepares to take over four exploration blocks off in Nicaragua’s offshore Pacific.

British company Cairn Energy has signed an agreement with Norwegian oil company Equinor to take over four oil and gas exploration concessions it holds in four blocks in the Sandino Basin off Nicaragua’s Pacfic coast.

Nicaragua is looking to increase its oil production after having ceased purchasing oil from Venezuela in 2018.

Cairn Energy is headquartered in Edinburgh, with offices in Norway, Senegal and Mexico, and has made oil and gas discoveries and developed reserves in a number of countries.

The legal services provided by García & Bodán included coordination, revision, formalisation and filing of registration, qualification and submission documents, including legal, technical and financial documentation and information to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Nicaragua (MEM), as well as subsequent meetings with MEM legal counsel and coordination with the legal adviser and the commercial adviser for Cairn Energy.
