PPU counsels Colas on Asfalcura acquisition
Chilean law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) has acted as counsel to French transport infrastructure company Colas on its acquisition of Asfalcura, a Chilean company specialising in road construction, in addition to asphalt mix production and application.
Asfalcura operates across Chile and employs 200 people, and holds a 33.33 per cent stake in Oil Malal, a company specialising in the import, processing and distribution of bituminous products.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Société Routière Colas was founded in France in 1929 by Shell and Société Générale d’Entreprises to operate the cold asphalt bitumen emulsion patent. The company originally specialised in the production of bitumen emulsion in addition to road works.
This acquisition is part of Colas’ development strategy in South America, the company said, and which already has footholds in Chile through Colas Rail and Dust-A-Side.
PPU lawyers acting for Colas were led by partner Andrés Sanfuentes, with associates Guillermo Vial and Catalina Silva. In addition, labour partner Paulina Miranda was involved as counsel, along with M&A associate Ignacio Vargas, competition associate Álvaro Espinosa, environment associates Felipe Arévalo and Valentina Sebeckis, and real estate associate María Jesús Mingo.
