PPU promotes partners in Colombia and Peru

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría has promoted Carolina Porras to partner in Colombia, and Rafael Lengua and Sebastián Basombrío in Peru.

CAROLINA PORRAS PPUPorras (pictured) provides counsel to local and international clients in Colombia, and her practice includes individual and collective labour law and social security and immigration advice. Porras is also active in labour disputes. She has been with PPU since 2010, when she joined from Brigard Urrutia.

Lengua advises on M&A, financing and capital markets transactions, with a particular focus on the mining sector. Before joining PPU in 2018, he was general counsel at mining company Miski Mayo. He is admitted to practise in Peru and New York and previously worked for two years at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Basombrío advises on arbitration and litigation proceedings related to commercial, contracts, energy and infrastructure disputes. He joined the firm in 2017 and was previously at Estudio Echecopar member firm of Baker McKenzie International.

Managing partner in Lima, Guillermo Ferrero, says it’s important to have a strong mining team, despite the recent slowdown in the sector. “In the long run it is strategic for the country and, thus, for the firm,” he says. For disputes, he says that international arbitration has become an important source of income for the firm. “Sebastián will play a significant role to sustain such growth, along with Ramiro Portocarrero, who leads the practice in Lima,” Ferrero adds.

PPU now has 17 partners in Colombia and 19 in Peru, and 21 in Chile.
