Latin America’s M&A deals value rose by 40 per cent in 2019

Latin America’s mergers and acquisitions values increased by 40.2 per cent in 2019, compared with the previous year, with the number of disclosed deals (1,028) totalling $126.6 billion.

latin america mapThe region recorded a 7.14 per cent increase in the number of deals year-on-year, according to a report by Transactional Track Record.

Brazil led the region in the number of transactions during the year, which totalled 1,1448, a 17-per cent increase on 2018, with a 48-per cent increase in the amount of capital mobilised, which totalled $13.8 billion.

Mexico was ranked second in the number of operations, with 312, but which represented a 12 decrease compared with 2018, although the total deal value was a 26-per cent year-on-year increase, totalling $18.9 billion. 

Chile ranked third, with 242 operations, a 1-per cent decrease over 2018, with a 39-per cent increase in capital deployed, and which totalled $13.8 billion. Colombia overtook Argentina to claim fourth place, with 216 operations, a 19-per cent increase on 2018 deal numbers, with a 189-per cent increase in deal values, which totalled $12.6 billion. 

Argentina recorded 156 M&A operations during the year, a 25-per cent decrease on 2018, and a 12-per cent decrease in deal values, which totalled $5.42 billion. Pero recorded 135 M&A transactions during 2019, a 16-per cent decrease on 2018, and which totalled $8.16 billion, a 3-per cent year-on-year drop.
