Squire Patton Boggs secures EPC contract for Mexico wind farm

Squire Patton Boggs has played a leading role in securing the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the 108-megawatt Energía Sierra Juárez II wind farm, to be located in Tecate, in Mexico’s Baja California state.

Alvaro J Mestre of Squire Patton BoggsThe wind turbine order has been placed by Energía Sierra Juárez, a joint venture between Squire Patton Boggs client IEnova, a Sempra Energy company and one of the largest private energy companies in Mexico, and Saavi Energía, Mexico’s third-largest independent energy producer.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas secured the EPC contract, which includes the supply, transport, installation and commissioning of 26 turbines. 



The Energía Sierra Juárez II project is the 108-megawatt expansion of the existing 155-megawatt Energía Sierra Juárez facility.

The clean energy generated by the wind facility will be exported to the US and sold to San Diego Gas & Electric under a long-term power purchase agreement. 

Turbine delivery is expected in the third quarter of 2020 and the commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2021.
