LatAM cover MAR2020The latest issue of the magazine features an interview with Christina Maccio, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe’s new hire in Houston, a first-chair trial lawyer and fluent Spanish speaker who brings a wealth of experience to the firm, having represented companies in Latin America and Europe, and with a strong focus on the energy sector.

Hogan Lovells’ new global CEO, Miguel Zaldivar, one of the few Mexican-Americans to hold such a top post, tells us about the importance of Latin America for the firm, while Garrigues’ lead paetner in Peru, Óscar Arrús, talks about how the firm manages to stay at the cutting edge in the country — and across Latin America — despite the strong competition from local firms, and global firms that are expanding their reach across the region by integrating local firms.

ECIJA this year opened a human rights and social responsibility practice in Mexico, the first law firm in the country to offer such a specialisation, and The Latin American Lawyer spoke to the practice’s head, Adalberto Méndez López, about the importance for companies to be well versed on their new obligations in the matter.

And in our In-House section, we talk to TransCanada’s senior legal counsel for Mexico and Latin America, Moisés Hernández, on the legal challenges the company has faced in its development of gas pipelines in Mexico.
