Latest issue now online
The latest issue of The Latin American Lawyer is now online and available for free download.
The May-June issue looks at the side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it will affect the economies of the region as governments face a sharp economic downturn and companies struggle to stay afloat, while Latin Americans suffer the social and economic effects of unemployment and austerity measures. We talked to lawyers in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru to get their expert opinion on the new landscape that will emerge across the region, post-pandemic.
Baker McKenzie’s Latin America chair, Jaime Trujillo, talks about how his firm has mobilised to provide personalised and timely advice to clients grappling with the fallout from the pandemic, while Emil Infante, head of the new Latin America practice at US law firm Polsinelli, talks about the challenge of setting up a new practice and the importance of the region for the firm.
Sebastián del Campo and Felipe Meneses, two of the founding partners of Chilean law firm Lawgic Abogados, which launched earlier this year, talk about their firm’s focus on environmental law and natural resources, and their experience working in Chile and how they now plan to do things differently.
And in our in-house section, Intercorp Peru’s associate general counsel José Enrique Frías Amat y León talks about the legal implications for a conglomerate engaged in multiple sectors, and how his team is constantly striving to take on new challenges and step out of their comfort zone.
