Mexico’s essential industries set to restart on June 1
Essential business activities can resume in Mexico from June 1, according to the federal government, but each region of the country will be subject to a ‘traffic light’ system that will allow their risk factor to be gauged, according to the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government has added the construction, mining and the manufacturing of vehicles to the list of essental industries, and which could restart operations on June 1 if they comply with sanitary safety protocols in accordance with the general guidelines issued by the Health Ministry, in coordination with the economy and labour and social welfare ministries
The automotive and auto parts industries that export their products must also comply with the corresponding protocols of their country of origin.
The government has also added breweries to the list of industries that could reopen on June 1.
Whether or not industries and public activities can resume will depend on the following ‘traffic light’ system.
In the event of a ‘red’ light for a region, schools will remain closed and activities in public spaces will remain suspended, while only essential economic activities will be able to resume operations.
With an ‘amber’ signal for a region, schools will remain closed and activities in public spaces will be allowed in the open air but with a reduced capacity, but suspended indoors, while non-essential industries will be allowed to operate but with reduced operations.
With a ‘yellow’ signal, schools will remain closed, activities in open-air public spaces will be allowed at full capacity, while some restrictions will remain in place on activities in indoor spaces, and there will be no restrictions on economic activities.
With a ‘green’ signal, schools will reopen and there will be no restrictions on activities for the general public or business operations.
