Merck engages Von Wobeser for Iberdrola PPA in Mexico
Mexican law firm Von Wobeser y Sierra has acted as counsel to global pharmaceutical company Merck on the signing of a power-purchase agreement (PPA) in Mexico with Spanish energy company Iberdrola
As a result of the PPA, Iberdrola will supply electricity to all of Merck’s pharmaceutical facilities and corporate offices in Mexico, which will significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The deal is expected to save Merck up to $1 million in energy costs during the duration of the agreement, and reduce its CO2 emissions by an equivalent of that generated by the burning of 7.3 million gallons of petrol by motor vehicles, the law firm said.
Von Wobeser has also been advising Merck on a day-to-day basis on its registration process within Mexico’s wholesale electricity market with energy regulatory body CRE.
