Gómez-Pinzón guides Colombia shopping mall sale
Colombian law firm Gómez-Pinzón Abogados has acted for a local private equity firm in its sale of a shopping centre to Chile’s Mallplaza
Mallplaza is a Chilean shopping centre operator with properties in Chile and Peru, and this transaction marks the company’s entry into Colombia.
The private equity firm, Fondo de Capital Privado Nuevomundo, sold the Calima shopping mall to Mallplaza though its real estate investment trusts (REITs) Fideicomiso Calima Centro Comercial and Fideicomiso Arrendamientos Calima Bogotá.
Through the transaction, Mallplaza acquires 440 retail outlets in the Calima mall in Bogotá, as well as their lease contracts, and which total around 700,000 square feet of retail space. Swedish home furnishings chain Ikea plans to open a store in the complex, and which is slated for a 2023 opening, and which will be the company’s first outlet in Colombia.
The transaction was carried out with a loan granted to Mallplaza by Banco Davivienda. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
Gómez-Pinzón’s team advising Fondo de Capital Privado Nuevomundo was led by partners Felipe Mariño (pictured) and Mauricio Piñeros, with associates Juan Pablo Caicedo De Castro and Juan Pablo Arenas.
