Cervantes Sainz have appointed Paulina Morfin Cedeño as head of the new practice area
Cervantes Sainz, S.C. announced the creation of a new “Regulatory Compliance and Prevention, Detection and Persecution of Corruption and Concurrent Crimes” practice, directed by Paulina Morfin Cedeño (pictured), a lawyer with national and international recognition in the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing.
The aim of the new practice is providing full legal advice to corporations and financial groups regarding compliance with current legislation. Also, counselling on corruption and prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing regulations, ensuring full, timely and total compliance with them, but with an emphasis in achieving risk identification, evaluation and mitigation.
The target is undertaking in-depth analysis and implement optimal mitigants for each type of industry or economic activity. The goal is the creation of internal policies and dawn raid procedures that compile in the highest level of Operation Manuals, Codes of Ethics and Codes of Conduct.
Paulina Morfín Cedeño is a senior associate at Cervantes Sainz, S.C. since 2015. She obtained her law degree in the Escuela Libre de Derecho. Also, she has a master’s degree in Legal Sciences from the Universidad Panamericana, a master in Law, Economics and Public Policy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and she is PhD in Law from the Universidad Panamericana. Moreover, she acquired experience working with the Servicio de Administración Tributaria, la Procuraduría Fiscal de la Federación, la Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores and in one of the largest global financial institution participating in the Mexican market, managing complex financial, banking and securities matters, with emphasis on corporate governance practices, compliance, risk analysis and design of mitigants.
Paulina has an Official Certification granted by the National Banking and Securities Commission (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores) that recognizes her outstanding technical knowledge in the prevention of operations with resources of illicit origin and financing of terrorism. She is thus one of the very few attorneys practising in private national and international law firms who is legally qualified to act as a compliance officer and external auditor.
