CTA ECIJA appoints two new partners

CTA ECIJA has strengthened the pioneering Oil, Gas and Energy areas

Following its growth process in Brazil, CTA ECIJA, a full-service law firm, reinforces the Oil, Gas and Energy areas with the arrival of two new partners. Thus, it incorporates Luis Fernando Pacheco (pictured left), a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience to lead the Natural Resources, Oil & Gas area, as well as Alexei Macorin Vivan (pictured right), an expert in the same area with a focus on litigation.

Pacheco has extensive experience in the oil and gas segment, advising clients on trends, updates to legislation and regulation, and strategies for conducting complex business in these sectors. He is a renowned expert in all areas of oil and gas exploration and production, distribution and refining negotiations. He has participated in the drafting of some contracts and legal instruments currently used in the oil and gas segment in Brazil. He frequently represents leading international oil and gas companies from various countries, guiding them through the complex legal structure of Brazil. Industry publications consider him to be one of the leading lawyers on the Brazilian oil and gas circuit with strong performance and excellent contacts with the broader energy community. He is a frequent speaker at conferences in Brazil and abroad, especially in the oil and gas area, and is the author of several publications on the subject.

At the beginning of his professional career, Luis Pacheco worked as a foreign associate in Chicago at one of the largest international law firms from 1994 to 1995, and in Brazil as a foreign partner until 2005. He was also a member of the Council of Taxpayers of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance from 1993 to 1994. He was also Regional Director for Latin America of the International Association of Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN); Vice-Chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee of the Brazilian Bar Association; and a member of the Board of the Energy Law Institute, USA.

Besides, Alexei Macorin Vivan joins the management of the Energy, Civil Litigation and Insolvency areas. He has 24 years of experience, with strong expertise in Civil law, Civil Litigation, Administrative, Regulatory, Commercial, Corporate and Insolvency matters, especially in the electricity sector. Likewise, the attorney has extensive experience in renewable energy, thermal generation and distribution, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, corporate operations, judicial and arbitration discussions and judicial and extrajudicial recoveries.

He has participated in the negotiation of several friendly and conflictive situations involving shareholders, creditors, suppliers, unions, public agencies, mergers and acquisitions and distressed assets. He has assisted clients in auctions for public disinvestment, in PPP processes, in energy auctions, in the organization of consortiums and other corporate structures. He has represented clients before CCEE, ANEEL, CVM, BACEN and municipalities in administrative, judicial, arbitration and judicial reorganization proceedings. He is the executive director of the Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Companies – ABCE. Finally, he is a board member certified by the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance – IBGC and a certified professional with an emphasis on administration by the Institute for the Certification of Social Security Professionals – ICSS.
