Cuatrecasas hires nine partners in Chile, Colombia and Mexico

Cuatrecasas has strengthened thus its business strategy all over the LATAM area

Cuatrecasas partners have approved the hiring of Roberto Guerrero V. (pictured bottom left) as Santiago de Chile Corporate and Commercial coordinating partner, of Manuel Quinche (pictured bottom centre) as Bogotá new managing partner and Banking and Finance coordinator, of Alessia Abello (pictured bottom right) as Bogotá Infrastructure partner, of Juan Felipe Vera (pictured up right) as Bogotá Corporate–M&A partner in Bogotá and of Javier Díaz de León (pictured up centre) as Mexico City Tax Practice partner.

Roberto Guerrero joins the firm, together with three lawyers of his current team—Tomás Kubick, Macarena Ravinet and Josefina Yávar—who, together with Alfonso Ugarte, have been appointed partners of the Corporate and Commercial Practice in Santiago.

With these appointments, the firm strengthens its leadership in Latin America, with an outstanding presence in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and over 20 years’ experience in the region. The firm bases part of its business strategy on its ability to offer a comprehensive legal service to its clients, advising them on the most complex matters in the leading Latin American markets.

Roberto Guerrero V. is the new coordinating partner of Corporate and Commercial Practice in Santiago de Chile. With 30 years’ experience in corporate matters, M&A, and banking and finance law, Guerrero has participated in many iconic transactions on the Chilean market. He has centred his practice on commercial, corporate and finance law. Representing national and international clients, including US, European and Asian multinationals, he has participated in designing, negotiating and implementing complex deals in many sectors of the economy, such as commerce, energy, finance, fishing, food and beverages, industry, infrastructure, mining, services, and telecommunications. He focuses on high-impact advisory services and transactions, which have earned him international recognition. He also lectures at the School of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and has been a member of the National Television Council since 2011. Between 2008 and 2010, he was a member of the Chilean Transparency Council.

Manuel Quinche is the new managing partner of Bogotá office and coordinator of Finance Practice. Specializing in the areas of structured finance, project finance and M&A, Manuel Quinche has advised national and international borrowers, lenders and financial institutions on various corporate and project finance transactions, including commercial bank financing, syndicated financing, financing with multilateral entities, financing with export credit agencies and funding through the capital markets. He stands out for his participation in the most complex financing transactions and with the highest value carried out in Colombia and the two largest M&A transactions in Colombia’s history. Before joining Cuatrecasas, he worked at leading law firms in Colombia and the US.

Alessia Abello will become partner specializing in structuring infrastructure projects in Bogotá office. Abello is an expert in structuring infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships, project finance, and designing and structuring construction contracts, particularly regarding road infrastructure. Her energy record shows participation in structuring private capital-linked projects in the hydrocarbons and electricity sectors. Also, her expertise reaches structuring contracts for the design and construction of refineries and energy-generating plants. She has advised financial institutions on financing infrastructure projects and structuring securitizations to finance the works for Bogotá’s integrated transport system.

Juan Felipe Vera is the new Bogotá Corporate–M&A partner. With extensive experience in Corporate transactions and M&A, Juan Felipe Vera regularly advises private capital funds and strategic clients in various industries on M&A transactions, corporate reorganization, acquisition agreements, shareholders agreements, collaboration agreements and capital markets. He advises company acquisitions in many sectors, including banking, energy, health, infrastructure, manufacturing, mass consumption, and public services.

Javier Díaz de León is the new Mexico City office partner and tax lawer specializing in M&A, financial instruments, private equity, wealth planning and tax disputes arising from tax treaties. Specializing in international taxation, Javier Díaz de León has represented public and private investment funds, brokerage firms, SOFOMEs (a type of company under Mexican law providing loans and credit), manufacturing and distribution companies, maritime and air transport consortiums for the energy industry and family offices on asset matters. He has advised on tax about creating regulated and non-regulated funds, financial products, M&A, corporate restructuring, co-investment, financing, structuring of real estate developments, energy and infrastructure projects, and international trusts for administering and transferring assets. The new Cuatrecasas partner has a Master in International Tax from the New York University and lectures in master programs at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association and was chair of the International Fiscal Commission of the Mexican Institute of Chartered Accountants.

The hiring of Tomás Kubick will strengthen the Chilean Corporate and Commercial Practice. He has over ten years of experience in corporate and M&A matters and has experience in a supporting role in Competition, protection of consumer rights and Insolvency matters. The new partner has advised clients on important M&A transactions and asset sales, joint ventures and all forms of association, shareholders agreements and complex legal structures. He is legal counsel to several boards of directors about their corporate governance and decision-making. He lectures in the School of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Macarena Ravinet will become the leading partner of Finance Practice at Santiago de Chile. With extensive experience in M&A, project finance and financial transactions, Macarena specializes in the retail and food, energy and infrastructure, telecommunications sectors, Corporate and Financial restructurings, Corporate governance and Private Equity. She also advises companies, foundations and non-profit organizations on Corporate, Financial and Tax matters. She is president and director of the Pro-Bono Chile Foundation and forms part of the International Pro Bono Network.

Josefina Yávar is the new Santiago de Chile partner specialized in Venture Capital and M&A transactions in the energy sector. With extensive experience in general corporate law, Yávar specializes in transactional operations, corporate governance, formation and structuring of investment funds and mergers and acquisitions, both local and international. She has developed a specific practice in the acquisition, sale and development of energy projects. She has also advised investment funds, entrepreneurs and start-ups on venture capital and private equity matters. She lectures at the School of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Alfonso Ugarte is the new M&A, advising on public and private transactions partner in the Santiago de Chile office. He acquired all of his training in the leading law firm Claro & Cia and has participated in some of the most iconic transactions on the Chilean market. As an expert in M&A and in advising foreign and domestic investors on public and private transactions in various industries, his M&A practise has focused mainly on Infrastructure, Banking, Retail, Mining and Technology. He also advises creditors and debtors on structured financing transactions, bankruptcy restructuring and reorganization, and distressed financing. He has been lecturing on corporate and commercial Law at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile since 2014.
