Cescon Barrieu expands international operations with office opening in Toronto, Canada

Cescon Barrieu inaugurated, in January, its unit in the city of Toronto, Canada, becoming the first full-service Latin American law firm to have a physical presence in the country.

cesconThe initiative is part of the firm’s expansion and internationalization strategy, which completes 20 years of activities in 2021. At the head of the unit is attorney Frederico Marques, who has resided in Canada for 15 years and led the work of Canadian law firm McCarthy Tetrault in Latin America.

“In recent years, we have developed an important business flow with Canadian companies and investors. In addition, Canada has increasingly been a major destination for our clients in industries where we have significantly increased our presence in recent years, such as mining and oil. The opening of the Toronto office is more than a natural movement of expansion, but the result of a strategic decision to better serve our clients,” explains Marcos Flesch, a partner at Cescon Barrieu.

“Canadian companies have always had a significant role in our cross-border operations. The Toronto office will also expand our ability to provide the best legal advice to our Canadian clients with investments or interests in Brazil,” adds Cescon Barrieu’s managing partner, Joaquim Oliveira.

The Canada Desk at Cescon Barrieu has a multidisciplinary team of approximately 20 people, including Marcos Flesch, Ana Carolina Passos and Ana Paula Calil in Corporate/M&A and Capital Markets, Frederico Viana and Marcelo Mendo in Mining and Environment, Helena Abdo in Litigation and Arbitration, and Luciano Souza in Compliance and Government Relations.
