Merger and acquistions volume grows 54% by September in Brazil

The Brazilian transactional market recorded a total of 1,716 transactions and moved BRL 376.2bn through the third quarter of 2021, according to the monthly Transactional Track Record report.

These figures represent a 54% increase in the number of transactions compared to the same period in 2020.

The third quarter stood out from the rest and recorded 699 mergers and acquisitions.

The Technology sector remains the most active for the year, with a total of 640 transactions, representing an 83% increase over the same period in 2020. In second place is the Finance and Insurance sector, with 318 transactions.

Cross-Border Scope

The United States is the main destination for Brazilian investment, with 38 transactions with a total of BRL 1.6bn, followed by Colombia with 12 transactions and Argentina with 11 transactions.

The United States and the United Kingdom, with 154 and 28 transactions, respectively, are the countries that invested the most in Brazil. The United States stands out with a total of BRL 70.6 billion.

Private Equity, Venture Capital and Asset Acquisitions

So far, in relation to the same period last year, 93 Private Equity transactions have been recorded, an increase of 5% in the number of operations.
In Venture Capital, 510 transactions were completed, an increase of 63%.

In Asset Acquisitions, 168 were registered, an increase of 0.6%.
