Hogan Lovells names its second female partner and new counsel in Mexico

Hogan Lovells has appointed Mary Carmen Fuertes Abascal as a new partner and Juan Arturo Dueñas Counsel to the firm in Mexico

Global law firm Hogan Lovells has named Mary Carmen Fuertes Abascal, a lawyer specialising in Labour and Human Resources, as partner, and Juan Arturo Dueñas, a lawyer in the Litigation and Arbitration practice, as counsel. These movements correspond to the round of promotions that the firm made in the more than 25 countries where it has a presence, and from which 27 partners and 71 counsels emerged.

The firm’s managing partner in Mexico, Omar Guerrero, commented: “At Hogan Lovells we always seek diversity and equal opportunities for all, and there is no doubt that Mary Carmen’s merits support her appointment and current position. Her promotion means a lot not only to the firm but also, as a female partner specialising in employment law, she is setting a precedent for others to follow.”

Mary Carmen Fuertes Abascal (pictured left) has more than 15 years of experience in Labor and Employment matters with a focus on specialized consulting for transnational companies with operations in Mexico. She studied a Master’s Degree in Business Law at the Universidad Anáhuac del Norte, Mary Carmen joined Hogan Lovells Mexico in 2011. She has coordinated and carried out personnel transfers, internal restructurings, terminations, audits, as well as other personnel movements derived from acquisitions, sales, mergers, spin-offs and legal reforms.

Juan Arturo Dueñas (pictured right) has worked for more than 14 years at Hogan Lovells – including one year in the New York office – in the dispute resolution practice. He has extensive experience in domestic and international disputes, including civil and commercial litigation, arbitration and bankruptcy. In addition, he has advised and executed complex legal strategies to avoid disputes for his clients. He holds a law degree from ITAM and an LL.M. from King’s College London.

Both the Mexican partner’s promotion and that of her colleagues worldwide derives from the firm’s values and leadership, reflecting a truly global and diverse culture.
