GC promotes new partners and counsels

Gonzalez Calvillo has appointed Luis Enrique Cervantes and Alberto Pliego as partners, and Julia González and Rafael Fuentes as counsels

 Mexican law firm Gonzalez Calvillo has promoted Luis Enrique Cervantes and Alberto Pliego to partners, and Julia González and Rafael Fuentes to counsels. These promotions are effective 1 January 2022 and will strengthen a wide range of the firm’s practice areas.

Name partner Enrique González Calvillo commented on the promotions by stating: “I am thrilled such a strong and talented group of colleagues have been promoted across GC. Our new partners and counsel bring unparalleled and diverse thinking that will be proved crucial helping our clients navigate the intricated and complex legal landscape our country currently faces. I look forward to continue working with each of them and plan for the future ahead.”

Luis Enrique Cervantes (pictured top left) is primarily active in GC’s Labour, Employment and Corporate Compensation practice area. He regularly acts for clients providing cutting-edge strategic consulting both individually and collectively. He also advises clients on regulatory compliance matters. Luis Enrique has led and advised on recruitment processes, individual and collective bargaining matters, executive compensation programs, expatriate management, pension plans, employment restructurings, terminations, mass layoffs, complex employment litigation, including strategic defence representing companies in employment claims brought by employees and expatriates. Luis Enrique joined GC as counsel in 2019.

Alberto Pliego (pictured top right) has more than 10 years of experience as an intellectual property and franchising lawyer, and joins as a partner for these practice areas. He represents national and international clients in a wide range of matters including advice and litigation related to the protection and defence of intellectual property rights, as well as in the negotiation, drafting and execution of franchise, licensing, distribution and relevant aspects of intellectual property agreements in M&A transactions. Alberto joined GC in 2008.

Julia González (pictured bottom left) is a leader in the field of social impact assessment and a renowned constitutional and regulatory lawyer. Her practice focuses on the development of infrastructure projects, a key element for the growth of any country. She is actively involved in numerous constitutional claims against general laws and regulations affecting the environment and competition, actions and omissions of governmental authorities, as well as in class actions related to environmental and consumer issues. Julia has conducted more than 40 social impact assessments in the Mexican energy sector and regularly advises companies on how to obtain free, prior and informed consent.

Rafael Fuentes (pictured bottom right) provides regulatory consultancy, strategic legal protection and constitutional and administrative litigation, advising clients in highly regulated sectors such as banking and infrastructure. He regularly represents leading financial institutions, startups entering the Fintech sector, telecommunications corporations and infrastructure companies. Rafael has experience in actions before the Mexican Supreme Court, with groundbreaking constitutional and regulatory legal precedents under his practice.
