TPA names two new associates

Torres Plaz & Araujo has announced the incorporation of José Antonio de Sousa and Annette Adriana Annia as associates

 Venezuelan law firm, Torres Plaz & Araujo Abogados, has appointed José Antonio de Sousa as a new associate in the Corporate-Tax/Oil & Gas Department and Anette Adriana Annia Vargas as an associate in the firm’s Contentious-Tax Department.

José Antonio de Sousa (pictured left) joined TPA in 2018. He is a lawyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, obtained a Diploma in International Tax Law from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), and is currently pursuing a specialisation in Financial Law also at UCAB. His professional practice has focused mainly on tax and corporate matters, company acquisition structures, drafting, reviewing and advising on different types of commercial and civil contracts, as well as legal advice in the area of taxation and compliance with different tax obligations at both national and municipal level, with particular experience in the area of international taxation.

Anette Adriana Anna Vargas (pictured right) has been with the firm since 2013. She holds a Law Degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) with honours Magna Cum Laude. Throughout her time at TPA she has worked in the handling of cases, preparation of Contentious Tax Appeals, Hierarchical Appeals, Discharge Writs, Administrative Nullity Appeals, among others. Likewise, she has advised companies that carry out customs activities and operations. Additionally, she has extensive experience in conducting research in areas of interest in tax and customs planning, as well as in the handling of international agreements signed and ratified by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to avoid international double taxation.
