H&K incorporates new Capital Markets team

Holland & Knight grows its Mexico office by adding a Capital Markets team led by Xavier Mangino

Holland & Knight’s Mexico City office strengthens with the addition of Xavier Mangino (pictured top left) to lead a new Capital Markets team alongside senior counsel Elena Ibarrola (pictured top right), associates Adolfo Obregón (pictured bottom left) and Alejandro Briceño Suárez (pictured bottom right), and two law clerks joining from DLA Piper.

Luis Rubio Barnetche, executive partner of the office, mentioned: “We are thrilled to have Xavier and his team join our Mexico City office as part of an ongoing and targeted growth of our Mexico practice capabilities […] Xavier is recognized and highly regarded by general counsel of Mexican public companies, as well as by Mexican regulatory authorities. His team will provide a strong complement to the securities work we currently perform for our clients, which includes both Mexico- and U.S.-based legal work.”

“Holland & Knight continues to build its already substantial Mexico and Latin America practice with the addition of Xavier and his highly experienced team […] Their practice is very complementary to our existing cross-border capital markets and corporate finance practices. We also see opportunities for our new lawyers to collaborate with our New York-based capital markets practice, providing a full-service component that sets us apart from our competitors and should be very attractive to large Mexican companies”, said Roberto Pupo, leader of the firm’s Latin America Practice.

Mr. Mangino’s practice focuses on the representation of large Mexican public and multinational clients in connection with their operations in Mexico, the United States and Europe, including the representation of these entities in connection with debt capital and equity capital markets, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions and financing matters, including structured finance, leveraged finance and general finance transactions. Xavier also sits on the board of directors of several private and listed companies, both Mexican and transnational, including the boards of Alsea, S.A.B de C.V., Qualitas Seguros, S.A.B. de C.V., Proteak Uno, S.A.B. de C.V. and Grupo Sports World, S.A.B. de C.V.

Regarding his incorporation, he stated: “Holland & Knight offers a unique platform that will allow my team to easily work across offices and pursue business opportunities in both the U.S. and in Latin America […] The firm encourages collaboration and the partners I’ve met have been very welcoming and supportive. I’m confident that my team and clients will thrive as a result of our move, despite the challenges presented by the current Mexican economy.”

Ms. Ibarrola has worked with Mr. Mangino for nearly 20 years. She regularly represents issuers and financial institutions in domestic and international public and private debt and equity offerings, and advises clients on the negotiation, structuring and drafting of commercial loans and other complex financings. Ms. Ibarrola also advises issuers and their boards of directors on reporting and other obligations under Mexican law and corporate governance.

“Holland & Knight has an impressive reputation in Mexico. The growth of its offices and the quality of the representations were certainly factors in the decision to join. I look forward to establishing strong relationships with Holland & Knight attorneys and exploring ways to bring more value to our clients”, Elena declared.

Holland & Knight has more than 50 lawyers in its Mexico City and Monterrey offices.
