Mattos Filho promotes six lawyers to partner

Mattos Filho has promoted six lawyers to partner, a move that brings the firm’s total partnership to 144. Four of the six newly promoted partners are women. The promotions span six practice areas and cover offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, reflecting growth in areas including Infrastructure and Energy, Tax, Corporate/M&A, Real Estate, Wealth Management, and Litigation and Arbitration.

The six new partners are Bárbara Carnevalli (Infrastructure and Energy, São Paulo), Luciana Cordeiro (Tax, São Paulo), Luis Bologna (Corporate/M&A, São Paulo), Marcela Freire (Real Estate, São Paulo), Pedro Falcone (Wealth Management, Family and Succession, São Paulo), and Vanessa Frota (Litigation and Arbitration, Rio de Janeiro). Frota is currently on an international secondment and will formally assume her partnership seat on June 8, 2026.

The promotions are aligned with a number of market drivers, including the impact of recent regulatory changes — notably Brazil’s ongoing tax reform — a rebound in M&A activity, and a rise in litigation. Demand for legal advisory in wealth management, complex real estate matters, and the energy sector also underpinned the decision.

Over the past three years, 60% of all lawyers promoted to partner at Mattos Filho have been women. Managing partner Pedro Whitaker de Souza Dias noted that promoting internally developed talent contributes to the firm’s long-term continuity through the formation of new leadership, while the majority presence of women among this cycle’s promotions reflects the firm’s commitment to gender equity.
