Baker McKenzie closed multi-jurisdictional acquisition for ICU Medical

Baker McKenzie advised ICU Medical on the acquisition of the Hospira Infusion Systems from Pfizer. The deal, globally valued at $900 million, included Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

ICU Medical is a California-based medical equipment manufacturer specialised in infusion therapy products.

Hospira is a producer of generic injectable pharmaceuticals and medical devices, spun off by Abbot in 2004 and acquired by Pfizer in 2015. On the 2017 deal, ICU Medical acquired the Hospira medical devices portfolio from Pfizer. This global deal positions ICU Medical as one of the world’s leading pure-play infusion therapy companies.

Baker McKenzie also provided regulatory, labour and employment and proposed deal structure support across  Latin America.

Teams in the US, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru worked together on the operation. Partner David Malliband and Darcy Down in Chicago; Marcos Basso and Michael Hamilton in Houston; Martin Quintanar in Buenos Aires; Tatiana Garces in Bogota; Alejandro Perez-Serrano and Christian Lopez in Mexico City; and Oscar Trelles and Alvaro Gutierrez in Lima had leading roles.
