Bayer instructs Demarest on Brazil leg of €7BN asset sale to BASF

Demarest acted for Bayer on the Brazilian aspects of its sale of businesses and assets to BASF.

The deal, valued globally at €7.6 billion, is part of Bayer´s divestiture in the context of its acquisition of Monsanto.

Bayer (pictured) is a multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany. It focuses on agricultural chemicals and biotechnology products as well as human and veterinary pharmaceuticals and consumer healthcare. 

Bayer agreed to buy Monsanto, the US-based agrochemical and agribusiness company in September 2016 for $66 billion. The sale was approved in 2018 by the European Union and in the United States. As part of the acquisition,  Bayer announced the sale of its seed and herbicide businesses to BASF, the world´s largest chemical producer. 

Partners Luciana Tornovsky and Lucas Tavares led the Demarest which advised Bayer under Brazilian law.
