BKM counsels Acciona Aguas on 2 WWTP projects

BKM Berkemeyer has counselled the Spanish company Acciona Aguas regarding the construction, operation and maintenance of two Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) on regulatory and contractual matters.

This transaction follows the award to Acciona Aguas by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) to execute construction works for two contracts of the Integral Sanitation Programme of the Bay and Metropolitan Area of Asunción.

Both construction projects are financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) within the framework of the Sanitary Sewerage Master Plan.

The first contract consists of the Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Sanitary Sewerage Network and Construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Bay of Asunción and the city of San Lorenzo (Varadero WWTP), with an investment of US $32,400,000.

The second project is the Bella Vista WWTP, which includes the expansion and rehabilitation of the sanitary sewerage network of the city of Asunción, Fernando de la Mora, Luque and part of San Lorenzo, with an investment of US $17,700,000.

The treatment of both plants will include a preliminary wastewater treatment system that will include pumping infrastructure, a grating system, degreasing and desanding, a loading chamber and a sub-fluvial outfall, allowing the removal of all rubbish, solid waste, sand, oil and grease present in the liquids evacuated through the sanitary sewerage system. In this way, the pollutant load emitted into the Paraguay River will be reduced.

Thanks to this project, an estimated population of two million people will benefit directly and indirectly, generating a considerable impact on the improvement of the quality of the water and its ecosystem, the environment of the river and the improvement of the quality of life of the population of the city of Asunción and its metropolitan area.
