BLP assists in feasibility studies for new Nicaraguan port
Law firm BLP has assisted in the carrying out of feasibility studies for the construction of a new port in Bluefields, Nicaragua.
The studies are being carried out by Nicaragua’s transport and infrastructure ministry in conjunction with Dutch company Arcadis Nederland.
The port will be partly financed by a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank and will require a $275 million investment, according to the law firm.
The project will form part of a transport link between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and is designed to boost economic development and reduce poverty on the country’s Caribbean coast, the firm said.
Bluefields is the capital of the country’s South Caribbean Autonomous Region.
Luis Ortiz, a BLP partner in public law, public procurement and regulation led the law firm’s team.
Also in Nicaragua, BLP advised French investor Nicolas Ancel on the acquisition of Mombacho Lodge, a hotel located in Granada.
The firm’s team was led by Favio Batres and included Juan Castillo and Federico Barrios.
BLP’s legal work included the purchase and sale of real estate properties and the transfer of permits and licences for the business operation, as well as the registration procedures in favour of the acquiring party.
