Bocater Advogados has two new tax law partners

Bocater Advogados has announced the arrival of two new partners to lead the firm’s tax law practice: Julio Oliveira (pictured left) and Raphael Nogueira (pictured right).

With more than 25 years’ experience in tax consultancy, planning, compliance and litigation, Julio’s previous experience includes having worked as a partner and tax director at two of the leading Big4 consultancies (KPMG and PwC) and at leading private sector companies such as Simpar, where he was director of corporate taxation, and Sealed Air Corporation, where he was director of the tax area for Latin America.

With a practice that includes work in the M&A area, especially focused on due diligence for acquisitions and sales of companies in Brazil, Julio also has international experience, having spent five years in the United States, providing tax advice to US companies with investments in Brazil.

He has postgraduate degrees in tax law and accounting sciences from the Brazilian Institute of Tax Studies (Ibet) and the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), respectively, and was a professor of tax law and accounting at IBMEC.

Raphael has more than 10 years’ experience in the public sector, with a special focus on tax and finance, and previously worked in tax litigation for a leading Brazilian company in the global market.

An attorney for the State of Rio de Janeiro for almost eleven years, he has held various leadership positions, including head of the Active Debt Attorney’s Office and the Legal Advisory Office of the State Finance Department (his current position), as well as representing the Treasury on the Rio de Janeiro State Taxpayers’ Council.

Before that, he was a tax lawyer at Petrobras for three years, where he defended the company’s interests in judicial and administrative proceedings at the municipal, state and federal levels.

In the academic sphere, he holds a master’s degree in Financial and Tax Law from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and was a professor of tax compliance at the Rio de Janeiro State School of the Judiciary (EMERJ) and IBMEC.
