Brazil’s J Amaral adds infrastructure, energy partner
Brazilian law firm J Amaral Advogados has hired Ana Lucia Gonçalves Soares as a partner to lead the firm’s new infrastructure and energy practice
Ana Lucia (pictured) has more than two decades’ experience as a lawyer serving the infrastructure and energy sectors, and her hiring coincides with a moment of growth of both sectors in Brazil, driven by incoming legislation that is expected to increase investment in the sectors, such as new water laws, while new legislation is also pending approval in congress, such as a bill relating to the gas sector.
Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras is also undertaking a privatisation drive, as part of the company’s streamlining, while a raft of privatisations planned by the government and expected to launch in 2021 may include state-owned electric power utility Eletrobras.
Ana Lucia has worked as legal director for Almeida Junior Shopping Centers, as a senior lawyer for Sete Brasil Participações, an oil drilling and services company, and as a partner at law firm Schmidt, Valois, Miranda, Ferreira & Agel, and she also held the post of senior lawyer at law firms Villemor Amaral and Tauil & Chequer, among other positions.
The São Paulo-based firm, which was founded in 2002, said Ana Lucia will be joining remotely from Rio de Janeiro, where she is based.
