Brazil’s TozziniFreire appoints new tax partner

Brazilian law firm TozziniFreire has recruited Thiago Medaglia as a new partner in its tax practice, boosting the team in anticipation of major demand following the incoming tax reform.

Thiago Medaglia“Thiago has broad experience in consulting and administrative tax litigation, customs and social security matters, and his practice includes advising multinational companies with presence in Brazil, as well as national companies seeking to internationalise their activities,” the firm said in a statement. 



Medaglia (pictured) specialises in corporate restructuring operations, mergers and acquisitions, and distressed M&A transactions, and his expertise comprises indirect taxes and customs duties, and taxation of the aviation, financial, technology, infrastructure and real estate sectors. 



A member of International Fiscal Association and the Brazilian Association of Financial Law (IBDF), he is a LACCA approved lawyer, and holds a degree in Advanced Negotiation: Deal Design & Implementation from Harvard Law School, an LLM degree in tax law from Georgetown University Law Center, and a postgraduate degree in tax law from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. 



According to Gustavo Nygaard , head of TozziniFreire’s tax practice, Medaglia’s arrival, and his comprehensive expertise, reinforces one of the firm’s core practices. 



The appointment follows that news in March of the promotion of two senior tax associates to partners: Christiane Alves Alvarenga and Erlan Valverde, bringing the tax team’s size to eight partners.
