Carey and Pillsbury advise Export Development Canada on Cencosud loan
Carey and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman acted for Export Development Canada on a $100 million loan granted to Chilean retailer Cencosud.
Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency and a state-owned enterprise owned by the Canadian government.
Cencosud is one of the largest retail conglomerates in Latin America. It is headquartered in Chile and has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Proceeds from the loan will be use to refinance existing debt, it was reported.
Partner Diego Peralta led the Carey team which advised EDC under Chilean law. EDC instructed a team at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman led bt Russell DaSilva, for matters under New York law.
Cencosud instructed Morales & Besa, with partner Guillermo Morales on a lead role, as Chilean counsel. Milbank, led by partner Carlos Albarracin, advised Cencosud on NY law.
