Carey partner elected vice chair of ABA’s international law section
Marcos Ríos, a partner at Chile’s largest law firm Carey, has been appointed vice chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) International Law Section, and which has more than 11,000 members.
The appointment as vice chair of the International Law Section is for a one-year tenure (2020-21), and is a position that will then lead him to becoming section chair-elect (2021-22), and subsequently to section chair, from 2022-23.
Marcos will be only the second non-US citizen to be chair of an ABA entity since the ABA’s establishment in 1878.
The ABA works to advance the rule of law across the US and beyond by providing practical resources for legal professionals, law school accreditation, model ethics codes and more, and has more than 400,000 members.
“In addition to being excellent news—both personally and for Carey—this appointment carries significant responsibility and challenges, which I assume with much enthusiasm,” Ríos (pictured) said.
The ABA announced earlier this month that Patricia “Trish” Lee Refo has become its 144th president.
Refo, who has held leadership positions in the ABA for more than 30 years, will serve a one-year term as president ending in August 2021. She is a partner at law firm Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix, Arizona.
