Carey promotes two new directors
Carey has announced the promotion of José Ignacio Mercado (pictured left) and Jorge Fuentes (pictured right) as directors of the firm. José Ignacio is now head of the Data Protection and Technology group, while Jorge will serve as head of the Intellectual Property and Information Technology practice.
José Ignacio Mercado joined the firm in 2018 and is part of the Data Protection; Telecommunications, Media and Technology; Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology; and Licensing, Franchising and Distribution practices. He is a lawyer from the University of Chile and focuses his practice on matters related to privacy, personal data protection, cybersecurity and intellectual and industrial property, including drafting, negotiating and implementing technology transfer agreements, such as licensing, franchising, distribution, among others. He has experience advising several technology companies in the design and implementation of commercial scaling processes, both in Chile and abroad. He has advised on regulatory matters related to the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, medical devices, marketing and promotion of these products.
Jorge Fuentes, part of Carey since 2009, is part of the Intellectual Property group and specialises in advising companies on the design and implementation of transformative innovation strategies based on the use of intellectual property. He also provides expert advice and counsel on patenting processes before the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) and various other patent authorities around the world. He has been a teacher and lecturer in many national and international courses and conferences. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Chile and a Master’s Degree in Business Management from the same university. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, focusing his research on corporate innovation strategies, entrepreneurship and intellectual property.
With these promotions, Carey now has more than 270 professionals and 7 directors in total.
