Carneiros Advogados announces new tax partner

The tax lawyer and Federal District prosecutor Alberto Medeiros (pictured) is the new partner in charge of the tax Law area at Carneiros Advogados.

The announcement is part of the firm’s expansion into business law, this time with a focus on contentious tax practice, specializing in strategic cases before the higher courts and the Administrative Council for Tax Appeals (CARF), and advisory practice, which already counts on the work of former Superior Court of Justice (STJ) minister Napoleão Nunes Maia as a consultant.

Medeiros’ arrival also marks the creation of Carneiros Advogados’ High-Value Transactions Center, focused on restructuring tax debts before the National Treasury Attorney General’s Office (PGFN), led by the lawyer, as well as non-tax debts before the Federal Attorney General’s Office (AGU), which will be led by partner Gilvandro Araújo.

The lawyer was a partner in major law firms and worked alongside leading jurists in Brazilian tax law. He teaches tax law at UnB, FGV and IDP, as well as chairing the OAB-DF Tax Affairs Committee.
