Chile’s Arauco advised by Simpson Thacher on Tableros de Fibras deal

Chilean forestry company Arauco retained Simpson Thacher on its acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in Tableros de Fibras, a subsidiary of Portuguese conglomerate Sonae Indústria.

The deal, valued at €137.5 million and subject to regulatory approval, will give Arauco shared control of Tableros de Fibras. The company will be renamed Sonae Arauco.

The Simpson Thacher team was led by David Williams and also included partners Ed Chung, Rob Holo, Andrew Lacy and David Rubinsky.

Headquartered in Chile, Arauco is one of the largest forestry companies in the world in terms of surface area and plantation yield.  Sonae Indústria’s main activities include manufacturing and selling wood-based panels.
