Cleary represents Grupo Popular in acquisition of GCS International

Cleary Gottlieb has represented Grupo Popular, a Dominican Republic financial company, in its acquisition of GCS International.

The transaction was signed on 3 August 2023 and closed on 1 September 2023.

By combining Grupo Popular’s existing synergies with GCS International as a new subsidiary, both organisations strengthen their value proposition to merchants, businesses and users of their platforms, bringing more innovative ideas to the financial system and driving digital transformation with new products to foster financial inclusion in the Dominican Republic and the region.

GCS International is a fintech company specialising in cutting-edge technology for large-scale processing of financial transactions with operations in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

Cleary’s corporate team was led by partner Manuel Silva (pictured) and associate Sofia Falzoni. Both lawyers are based in New York.
