Consortium Legal and Simpson Thacher instructed on $120 million loan to Grupo Monge

Consortium Legal advised the lenders in a $120 million syndicated loan to Grupo Monge, which instructed Simpson Thacher as NY counsel.

Grupo Monge is a Costa Rica-headquartered electronics retailer with operations across Central America and Panama.

The loan was granted by Bancolombia Puerto Rico Internacional; Banco Industrial; BAC Florida Bank, Banco Cuscatlan de El Salvador; Banco Aliado; BHD International Bank (Panama); Banco Internacional de Costa Rica; Banco Panama; BAC International Bank; Bancaribe Curaçao Bank; Towerbank International; Unibank; Banco Ficohsa (Panamá, Brickell Bankand Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior (BLADEX) which also acted as administrative agent for the lenders.

The Costa Rica team of Consortium Legal acted as regional coordinator and contact between all of the Consortium offices in Central America, the lenders, Grupo Monge, and all other law firms involved in the transaction.

Partner Randall Barquero led the team at Consortium Legal which also included partners Mario Quesada, Rafael Alvarado, José Rafael Rivera, Oscar Samour and Rodrigo Taboada.

The lenders instructed Holland and Knight for NY counsel. Garrigues in Peru and Arias Fabrega & Fabrega in Panama acted as local counsel to the banks in each respective jurisdiction.

Partner Jaime Mercado led the Simpson Thacher team advising Grupo Monge under NY law. In addition, the retailer instructed Vector Legal in Costa Rica and Garcia & Bodan in Honduras.
