Cristina Tomiyama

Demarest hires new partner in different areas

With the aim of further expanding its practice in the areas of Capital Markets and Public Companies, Demarest Advogados has announced the hiring of Cristina Tomiyama (pictured) as its new partner.

Cristina brings more than 25 years’ experience, with a focus on equity transactions (private and public) and listed companies. She works in a segment that is essential for the financing and growth of companies, allowing them to raise financial resources by issuing shares and other financial instruments.

The professional has led the main transactions in this market in recent years, with a particular focus on operations in regulated sectors and with large issuers, especially those involving the privatization and offering of shares in companies such as Eletrobras and Sabesp. Her main clients include investment banks, listed companies and investors from multiple sectors – energy, sanitation, health, aviation, construction, pulp and paper, car rental companies, oil and gas, logistics (road and rail) and mining, among others.

Cristina has a law degree from PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) in São Paulo and worked as a foreign associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York for three years (2006 to 2009).

She has experience in complex and diverse transactions involving the structuring, coordination and implementation of IPOs (Initial Public Offerings) and follow-ons, acting as counsel to issuers (companies seeking to raise capital by issuing shares or other financial instruments) and selling shareholders or intermediary institutions, both in Brazil and in the USA. Her work also stands out in the structuring, coordination and implementation of public company registrations, as well as advising issuers and/or intermediary institutions in local and international debt operations.
