DMK Lawyers – Central Law advised Senator Hotels & Resorts on Dominican Republic expansion

DMK Lawyers, the Dominican Republic member of Central Law, acted for Senator Hotels & Resorts on its acquisition of a 3-hotel resort complex in Puerto Plata.

Senator Hotels & Resorts is headquartered in Almeria, Spain and owns a portfolio of 36 hotels and resorts in its home country. The deal, valued at over $100 million, is reportedly the company´s first acquisition in Latin America.

The operation included the hotels Mambo, Merengue and Bachata, formerly owned by Riu in Puerto Plata, which is the second most important tourist destination in the Dominican Republic. In total, the hotels have 1,590 rooms. A syndicated of banks, led by BHD León and including Banco del Progreso Dominicano and Banco Banesco, provided finance for the deal.

Senior partner Enrique De Marchena Kaluche led the DMK Lawyers – Central Law team which also included partners Patricia Read and Nelson Jaquez. The firm advised Senator on a range of matters including corporate, finance, litigation, environment and labour issues.

Riu Hotels & Resorts, the Spanish hotel chain selling the hotels, instructed Monlex Hispajuris Abogados in Spain and Castillo & Castillo in the Dominican Republic.
