Ecija lands in Central America

Spanish law firm Écija announced it has merged with Expertis, a Central American legal outfit. 

 

costa rica mapÉcija is perhaps better known for their expertise in TMT and intellectual property. 

Expertis is headquartered in Costa Rica and boasts 9 offices in 7 countries across Central America and the Caribbean. It has a team of 17 partners and 81 professionals. 

In the announcement, Hugo Écija, founder and CEO of the Spanish firm said, “the aim of this movement is to become the largest firm in Latin America. We will achieve it in the hands of one of the major players in the region, which also enjoys recognition of the market and which is the best key access to future operations in different Latin American countries in the short to medium term.”

The move will significantly expands Écija´s footprint. It now has 16 offices in 11 countries, 56 partners and more than 280 professionals in Europe, USA and Latin America.

Spanish law firms are now a common sight across Latin America, however, Écija is the first to make a move into Central America.
