Felsberg appoints new partner

Felsberg Advogados has appointed Paula Salles as a partner to structure the Brazilian law firm’s competition law department and provide reinforcements for the M&A, compliance, and corporate criminal law areas

Paula Salles partner at FelsbergThe appointment continues the firm’s strategy designed to close 2019 with accumulated growth of 30 per cent in two years.

According to Miriam Machado, partner responsible for M&A at Felsberg, the competition practice will be an important ally in pushing forward Felsberg’s ‘one-stop-shop’ strategy, and capitalizing on the firm’s full service profile.

“With this step forward, we can offer a complete service with a difference, handling all possible implications of a competition nature in any corporate operation or business strategy,” she said.

Felsberg Advogados’ growth target, both in terms of revenue and number of clients, was established at the end of 2017. “The intention of all this is to prepare the firm for the future, a decision that has proven to be right and which has now brought in eight new partners,” according to founding partner Thomas Felsberg.

With Paula Salles (pictured) now part of the team, the firm has 24 partners, half of which are women.

For André Fonseca, the firm’s partner responsible for corporate criminal law, corporate investigation and compliance, the structuring of the competition law practice represents a vital step towards Felsberg’s consolidation as a ‘full service’ law firm.

“The practices of Competition and Corporate Criminal Law have always held great synergy, but especially since the ‘Operation Car Wash’ investigation into corruption, clients are increasingly looking for integrated solutions providing counseling and advice on prevention in cases of anticompetitive behavior with criminal implications,” Fonseca said.

A well-respected name in her area of activity, Paula Salles has worked as part of important legal teams in Brazil and the US. Paula graduated in law from the PUC University, and holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She also specialises in regulatory and economic law, and is a fellow of the Getulio Vargas Foundation.

Felsberg is a full-service Brazilian law firm that is a pioneer in various legal areas and is a member of the international Meritas and Legalink networks. In 2018, the law firm appointed new partners in the legal areas of corporate/M&A, tax, labour and employment, restructuring and insolvency, compliance, life sciences and infrastructure/sanitation.
