Felsberg creates data protection and technology law practice

Brazilian law firm Felsberg Advogados has created a practice area specialising in data protection, to be led by new hire Clarissa Luz as partner, bolstering its technology team to provide advisory, compliance, litigation and arbitration services to clients in relation to data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, technology law and other related issues.

“Clarissa’s entry is well-timed, in light of the Brazilian data protection act (LGPD), which was approved in August 2018 and is set to come into force in August 2020,” the law firm said.

With Luz’s arrival, the firm’s partners now number 24, half of whom are women.

“We have always beenabout innovation,” founding partner Thomas Felsberg said. “We believe in preparing ourselves as well as our clients for the future, and this is demonstrated yet again by our having Clarissa join our team.”

Clarissa Luz (pictured) has practiced for more than 12 years in the areas of dispute resolution, arbitration, intellectual property and technology law. In 2015, she started her own boutique law firm, CL Advogados, focussing on technology law and data protection, which was recognised by Análise Advocacia 2019 as one of the most admired in that sector in Brazil.

She is an executive director of Berkeley Global Society and a co-founder and member of the Commission of Entrepreneurship and Startups of the São Paulo Pinheiros chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (Comissão de Empreendedorismo e Startups da OAB/SP Pinheiros), and co-founder of the Commission of Data Protection of the Brazilian Association of Lawtechs and Legaltechs (AB2L).
