Garrigues integrates Chilean firm Barros, Silva, Varela & Vigil (BSVV)

The international legal and tax services firm Garrigues and the Chilean law firm Barros, Silva, Varela & Vigil (BSVV), a full-service law firm with more than a decade of experience in the Chilean legal market, have reached an agreement to integrate their practices in Chile, which will operate under the Garrigues brand. In the coming weeks, the contractual documentation will be finalized, and the agreement will be submitted to the respective partners’ meetings.

The integration of both firms will result in the consolidation of a leading firm in Chile, with a team of more than 130 lawyers (including 24 partners) and the ability to provide comprehensive advice in all areas of business law. Likewise, the transaction will generate significant synergies derived from combining Garrigues’ international strength with BSVV’s deep knowledge of the Chilean market, strategic vision, and technical expertise. The 11 BSVV partners will join the Garrigues partnership.

With this integration, Garrigues reinforces its commitment to Chile in a context of the country’s economic recovery, marked by moderate growth supported by solid fundamentals and good prospects. The transaction will also help consolidate the firm’s position in Latin America, providing clients with a single platform for regional and cross-border advisory services.

Latin America

With offices in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, Garrigues has more than 50 years of ties to the region. Its one-stop-shop model allows it to coordinate cross-border projects and transactions supported by an international network in 12 countries across four continents.

In 2025, Garrigues recorded revenues of €527.69 million. Its international business, which accounts for more than 17% of the total, grew by 44.5% compared to the previous year. The main milestone of the year was the integration of Sánchez Devanny into Garrigues Mexico.

Fernando Vives, Executive Chairman of Garrigues, said that the integration makes Garrigues a benchmark in Latin America. Luis Felipe Merino, partner in charge of Garrigues’ office in Chile, mentioned that it was a privilege to integrate BSVV, which is a firm of young professionals that has stood out for its significant growth in recent years. Fernando Barros Vial, partner at Barros, Silva, Varela & Vigil, noted that integrating with Garrigues, the firm takes a fundamental strategic step that fully aligns with the BSVV’s objectives.
