Garrigues opens in Chile

Garrigues announced the integration of Avendaño Merino, a Chilean law firm, as its fifth office in Latin America.

The Chile outpost adds over 20 lawyers, including five partners, to the headcount of the Iberian law firm. Legacy Avendaño Merino was originally founded in 2003 and its team focuses on M&A, tax, real estate and energy.

Fernando Vives, executive chairman of Garrigues, said in a statement: “Chile was a destination that could not be left out of our goal to become a firm of reference in Latin America. From the beginning we saw an identity of cultures between Garrigues and Avendaño Merino which made us determined to integrate its professionals; we are sure that they will all serve to strengthen Garrigues, not only in Chile but also throughout Latin America”.

Garrigues now has more than 100 lawyers in Bogota, Lima, Mexico City, São Paulo and Santiago de Chile. Globally, the law firm is home to over 1,500 lawyers in 13 countries
