G&B counsels ONGAWA on NGO registration in Guatemala

García & Bodán has advised the Spanish company, ONGAWA Ingeniería para el Desarrollo Humano, in the preparation of all the information required to register as a Non-Governmental Organisation according to the Guatemalan legislation in force.

The consultancy involved the review of the legal documents sent from the parent company, necessary to carry out the process in Guatemala, the notarisation of each of these documents, meetings with public officials from the Registry of Legal Entities (REPEJU) and the Ministry of the Interior to clarify legal aspects of ONGAWA’s operation in Guatemala, among others. Likewise, advice was provided in the follow-up of the whole registration process before the respective governmental authorities until the corresponding registration was obtained.

The projects developed by ONGAWA aim to reduce the incidence of diarrhoeal diseases in rural areas of Sololá, promoting the fulfilment of the human rights to water and sanitation through the improvement of the management capacities of communities and municipalities, especially those related to the monitoring and control of water quality. The empowerment and participation of women in community management spaces is one of the essential drivers to achieve this.
