GC counsels Mastercard on acquisition of Arcus FI

Gonzalez Calvillo has advised Mastercard International on the acquisition, by merger, of Arcus FI

Mexican law firm, Gonzalez Calvillo, has counselled Mastercard International, Inc. on the acquisition, through a merger, of Arcus FI, a company that provides bill payment and money transmission services and solutions to some of the largest billers, retailers, fintechs and traditional financial institutions in the US and Mexico, with expansion in Latin America.

Arcus was recently authorised to process, reconcile and settle payments through Mexico’s Interbank Electronic Payments System, or SPEI, so thanks to this transaction, Mastercard will accelerate the implementation of electronic payment solutions in Latin America.

This acquisition was closed on 23 November, and included the participation of the firms Sidley Austin LLP, as legal advisors to Mastercard; Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, as legal advisors to Arcus; Lenum Advisors, as local counsel to Arcus in Mexico; Munguia Vidaurre Law, as local counsel to Arcus in Nicaragua; and Soto Mejia Abogados, as local counsel to Arcus in the Dominican Republic.

GC’s team consisted of partners Daniel Guaida Azar (pictured left), Luis Mancera de Arrigunaga (pictured top right) and Cristina Massa (pictured bottom right), together wit counsels Juan Carlos Peraza, Patricio Martinez Osorio and Luis Enrique Cervantes Estevez, and associates Alejandro Ruenes Mata, Jorge Moreno Balcazar, Rafael Fuentes Cataño, Maria Paula Boustani, Maria De Las Nieves Hernandez Solano and Fernando de Buen Ramirez.
