GO counsels Fenix Gold on EIA re-qualification
Guerrero Olivos has counselled Fenix Gold Limitada, a subsidiary of Rio2 Limited, in the requalification before the Evaluation Commission of the Atacama Region of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Fenix Gold Project, after its unfavourable evaluation in July 2022.
This was done by filing an appeal to the Committee of Ministers for final approval of the EIA, which, after more than a year of intense work, accepted the appeal on 20 December 2023, reclassifying the EIA as favourable.
The Fénix Gold Project is one of the largest undeveloped gold oxide projects in the Americas at the pre-feasibility stage. The approval of the EIA will allow the company to advance the project through legal permitting, financing and the resumption of construction activities currently planned for 2024.
This transaction amounted to USD 206,000,000 and involved the jurisdictions of Chile and Canada. The advisory involved interaction with the Environmental Assessment Service and all other ministries and agencies involved in the assessment of the project.
